Back in 1987, KSJO FM ran a contest to “Write a New Song About San Jose”. I threw my hat in the ring with an original track, and to my excitement, it made the top ten! That landed me on stage performing live for a packed house at Spoons in the heart of downtown San Jose. There were so many great musicians there that night, but the winning trophy went to an elementary school choir conducted by their teacher. Because it was a bar venue and past their bedtime, the kids couldn’t even perform live and were presented on audio tape by their school teacher. They strictly won on the cuteness factor. But hey—that’s rock ‘n’ roll for you!
